NCI Ranks as Top Conservation Funder for Ecuador
March 2010

NCI invested nearly $4 million from 2007 - 2009, more than any other international NGO

The Ecuadorian government has ranked Nature and Culture International as the leading non-governmental international donor to conservation and sustainable development projects in Ecuador. From 2007 through 2009, NCI invested a total of nearly $4 million to conserve highly threatened ecosystems in the country – more than any other international NGO including Conservation International, The Nature Conservancy and World Wildlife Fund. We would like to thank our donors for their generous support, and in the years to come our long-term programs will continue to bring about great positive changes in this extraordinary region of the world.

Since 1997, NCI has helped to establish millions of acres of protected areas in the tropics. We’ve worked closely with the Shuar people of the Amazon to preserve their age-old Shuar childrentraditions, with communities and municipalities to create their own reserves, and we’ve helped safeguard water supplies for hundreds of thousands of people. We’ve collaborated with some of the poorest communities in the region to help establish sustainable income-generation activities, and we’re empowering new generations of conservationists through our effective environmental education programs. Our talented local staff of conservation professionals uses an effective bottom-up strategy, building close relationships with community stakeholders to accomplish our conservation objectives.
